Shoes Are Not For Walking…

September 13, 2008

Oh My. Here we have another fantastic slide show from Bill Cunningham of the NYTimes, but it is the voice over with the photos and subject matter that tickles me to no end. Stop it please. Please this is too much. I could listen to this for years, In fact I think I will…. It’s like a ridiculous Terry Gilliam Brazil outake with a voiceover by a character from an old Warner Bros. cartoon, “not to start everyone on a rampage…. ah huh huh ghuh….”

Fun, dark, popishly bemused whilst deeply durable and moving.

A lot more “today” than Bush of Ghosts.

A relatively short “LP” clockin’ in at about 39″. There are a couple of songs, maybe three, that really feel in line with their better stuff: Are You Ready, One of Us, Circumspect. All Fours is quite disturbing, the tones they get actually make me queasy…. The lack of all four members on all of the songs seems to flatten them out a bit; which is to say when all four original members are involved their stuff really has a simplicity and depth to it that can sound great, classic and timeless…What the hell the song “Mekon Headman” is getting at is unclear; It must have something to do with the band the Mekons? Whatever, I’m looking forward to seeing their upcoming tour.

Wire, the band, will be touring in support of a new release
